As soon as the weather starts to warm up, I tend to reach for outfits that feel effortless to wear with or without layers. Summer dressing for me is all about comfortable fabrics, relaxed fits and versatile pieces that work for everything from family days out to evenings in the garden. That said, the British weather is never as reliable as we’d like, so everything has to sit well under a grabbed jumper, cardigan or jacket that’s thrown on when the sun goes in. That’s exactly what drew me to the latest Cotton Traders Loved by Jasmine collection.
Created in collaboration with TV presenter Jasmine Harman, the collection focuses on easy-to-style pieces, expressive prints and flattering shapes that fit seamlessly into everyday life. I chose a few items that immediately felt wearable for the season ahead and have already become staples in my wardrobe.
Relaxed denim with a summer feel
The first piece I picked was the Loved by Jasmine wide leg stretch jeans. I love a wide leg jean in summer because they feel lighter and more relaxed than skinny styles, while still being easy to dress up or down. Wide leg styles seem to be really popular at the moment, and I can see why.
These have just the right amount of stretch to make them comfortable for all-day wear, and the fit is really flattering. They work beautifully with sandals and loose-fitting tops for a casual daytime outfit, but would also look lovely with heels for an evening out.
Easy everyday styling
To pair with the jeans, I went for the print crinkle tunic in navy. This is exactly the sort of top I gravitate towards at this time of year because it’s lightweight, and easy to wear. A floaty top with jeans definitely makes me feel more confident. There’s no danger of it riding up or looking a bit too tight.
The crinkle fabric makes it ideal for busy summer days because it still looks good without needing to be ironed. For the record, I haven’t ironed anything for about five years, and I have no intention of starting now. I also love the longer tunic style, which gives it a relaxed feel while still looking smart enough for lunches out or casual meetings.
Comfortable footwear for busy days
No summer wardrobe is complete without a comfortable pair of sandals, and the slip-on sandals were an easy choice. In the colder months, I tend to live in boots and trainers. I always get to this time of year and wonder what to wear on my feet. Socks just feel a bit too warm and restrictive once the sun comes out.
These are soft, supportive and easy to slip on and off, making them ideal for everyday wear. The neutral style means they work with almost anything in my wardrobe too, which is always a bonus when packing for weekends away or holidays.
When I ordered these, I thought the colour was a dark beige. It wasn’t until they arrived that I realised they were gold. Had I realised when I ordered them, I probably would have chosen something else. But now they’ve arrived, I actually love them. I feel that as well as wearing them for casual summer days and holidays, they’d be absolutely fine for wearing with a dress for a wedding or nice summer day out. I’m really pleased with them.
