It’s amazing how quickly the school holidays become a distant memory. The girls only went back last Tuesday but we’re already firmly entrenched in our routine. This week has been a real treat for me with plenty of outdoor swimming. With the river still flooded, I’ve been getting in for a swim when and where I could. So on Saturday when my husband took the girls to visit his aunt in Bristol, I took the opportunity for a swim. Clevedon Marine Lake I first noticed Clevedon Marine Lake over the summer. We’d gone out for lunch in Clevedon and I…

With the last piece of Christmas cake and mince pie consumed, the children trotted off back to school. And just like that, the holidays were over. It’s amazing how quickly we snap back into a routine. Creating new habits This year, I’m trying to do things a bit differently. I’ve picked up some more editing work so I need to keep the days free for that. So, I’m running first thing in the morning before my husband goes to work, then again in the evening before dinner. I’ve never really run more than once a day before, but I needed…

New year is a funny time. I always feel ready to get back into a routine, particularly in terms of eating healthily. Yet with the children off school and a few other things happening, it’s difficult to get back to normal. This year, whilst we’re still not eating particularly well we’ve at least managed to get plenty of exercise and fresh air. Westonbirt Arboretum A few years ago, my husband took Libby to Westonbirt Arboretum, about an hour’s drive from where we live. It’s a national collection of trees with trails for children to follow, a treetop walkway and lovely…

As I write, the cat is under the tree trying to unwrap the remaining Christmas presents so he can play with the string. The girls had everything they wanted for Christmas except for a horse. I’ve heard Santa didn’t have space on his sleigh. Maybe next year girls. You’ll have to make do with Bubbles and Rupert for now. Time to relax I’ve never been particularly good at just stopping. I’m usually doing something for work, whether that’s writing, messing around on social media or just catching up with some admin. This time of year is always a relief though.…

Christmas holidays are in sight. Between them in the past week, the girls have done a nativity play, four ballet shows and a carol concert. We’ve all watched one pantomime and Libby has watched two. They’ve both been swimming twice and had a piano lesson. They’ve both auditioned for their school end of term concert and been chosen to sing on their own. School Christmas jumper day and Christmas lunch somehow slotted in there and today is their Christmas party. Even by our standards, it’s been a busy week. New year’s resolutions At this time of year, I always start…
