The problem with blogging at the moment is that one week seems to fade into the next. With the children reluctantly starting their schoolwork again, last week seemed to drag on for approximately 327 years. I’ve found myself aiming to have little things to look forward to. A pub zoom quiz on a Tuesday night and a break from schoolwork at the weekend. Little jobs are getting done around the house and we are all pottering along at a much slower pace. Getting to know you Isn’t it funny how you get to know your own family just a little…

I can’t be the only person who was truly dreading the children’s schoolwork kicking in again this week. Their school have been excellent at sending work via an online platform to ensure they can continue their education. But working through it with them each day is a bit like pulling teeth. A new classroom For a bit of a change of scenery this week, we’ve relocated their lessons from the house to the camper van. I’m not sure why, but it does seem to make learning just a little more exciting. They’re half way through making a ‘classroom’ sign to…

Isn’t it amazing how well children can amuse themselves when they need to? The toys they rarely played with become firm favourites. The garden they hardly used is suddenly their favourite place to be. Even the dog is getting more attention. They’re still missing their friends, but they’re happy to be at home. I couldn’t ask for more from them really. The singing exam Libby was supposed to have a singing exam this month, which was of course cancelled. To her credit though, their singing teacher has continued to teach the girls via zoom. That, along with piano and ballet…

It seems we are all reluctantly settling into this new normal. It’s far from where we would like to be, but for most of us we are safe at home. At the moment, that’s the best we can ask for. Personally, we’ve been making the most of this time to get our garden as we want it. Once that’s all done, it will be time to move on to some decorating indoors. Our garden progress Fencing our front garden and moving a couple of sheds doubled our usable space. This week, we’ve tidied up and fixed the swing into the…

Isn’t it amazing how busy it’s possible to be without even leaving the house? With the children at home, we’re slowly settling into our new routine. My work is pottering along surprisingly well. I haven’t got quite as much as normal, but having two completely different streams of freelance income often means that everything comes at once. Whilst it’s difficult to fit it all in, I’m making the most of having work to do. It’s notably better than the alternative. Finding our homeschool routine When I first started helping the girls with their school work, we’d all sit together at…
