I wouldn’t class myself as someone who has a problem with saying no. I prefer to think of it as taking opportunities as they arrive. In weeks like this though, I do sometimes wonder if I take on too much. For now though, the children seem to be enjoying their chaotic week. I’ve worked late a few nights, but I seem to be managing to fit everything in. The cross country run Last year, Libby took part in the school cross country run. She’s never been a particularly fast runner, but she has great stamina and can keep going for…

Isn’t it a strange rule of life that everything happens at the same time? I can go months without socialising and then suddenly find myself a social butterfly for a week or two. This has been one of those weeks. A trip to London and a punch on the nose On Tuesday, I went to London to the Situp event for travel brands and influencers. It was a fascinating day. I caught up with friends I don’t see often enough, met new people and chatted to brands and tourist boards about some incredible destinations. I was a bit apprehensive before…

It seems the topic on everybody’s lips this week is the weather. After that deceptively glorious sunshine, it has finally returned to the much anticipated rain. Personally I’m quite pleased. Hopefully, next time the sun comes out it really will be the start of Spring and it will be here to stay a little longer. Improving Less than a year ago, Lia couldn’t swim. We took her to the pool every week and she’d refuse to take her float off, or if she didn’t have it she’d cling to me. My husband and I are both competent swimmers. In fact,…

What a beautiful week. Sunshine at this time of year makes it seem like Spring really is just around the corner doesn’t it? The girls are back to school, I’m back into a routine with work and the river is warming up already. Sunrise Yesterday, I fully intended to get up early and have an hour to myself walking on the Malvern Hills with the dog and watching the sunrise. I set my alarm for 6am and crept around the house getting ready to go so I didn’t wake the girls. But just as I was about to go downstairs,…

Unless we’re away in the camper van, our weekends tend to follow the same sort of pattern. Saturdays are spent outdoors. Usually visiting a National Trust property, the children often ride their bikes. It’s a day of freedom and fresh air and I know they always feel better for it. Being outdoors in Winter I sometimes feel a bit guilty for dragging the girls outside when it gets really cold. On Friday, the girls played in the snow twice. Once before school on the decking, then we went up the Malvern Hills for a walk at the end of the…

One of the things the girls miss out on a bit due to our hectic lifestyle is playing with friends. So this weekend, when Lia was invited to a friend’s house, both girls took full advantage. Playing with friends When I decided not to put Libby into our local school, I knew that one of the disadvantages would be that the girls didn’t live near their friends. It concerned me that they’d get left out as the other children went on playdates after school. But as it turned out, it hasn’t been a problem. Libby’s class just weren’t really into…

Do you ever find yourself getting back into things you used to love when your children start to enjoy them too? There have been a few occasions recently when my husband and I have been struck by the realisation that we weren’t setting a good example. Asking a child to do something you rarely do yourself never seems to go particularly well, so it was time to do something about it. Music lessons Libby has been learning the piano for 18 months now. She loves it and is progressing well, but like all children she is reluctant to do as…
