Hasn’t the half term holiday absolutely flown by? Perhaps it’s because the last time the children were off school it was for such an insufferably long time. Either way, we’ve packed loads into the past few days and half term is nearly over already. Roll on the Christmas holidays. A labour of love Lia has been working incredibly hard on her swimming since lockdown ended. I was surprised that when she first went back, she hadn’t lost any technique or fitness. In fact, swimming in the river and all the other exercise we did during lockdown seemed to have made…

With just two more weeks to go until half term, it feels fortuitous that the schools are still open. Whilst Covid cases are rising again, there does seem to be some hope that education won’t be disrupted just yet. This past week has brought the first lot of really bad weather since lockdown began in March. I was concerned that we’d all end up a bit stir crazy with staying indoors, but I needn’t have worried. The girls insisted on getting out and about anyway. Whatever the weather I’ve always been a huge fan of getting outdoors regardless of the…

Things seem to have settled down a bit here this week. We’ve relaxed into our routine and things are starting to seem normal. Masks are a part of everyday life, even for the children. Personally, I’m filling my time while they are at school although not in the way I thought I would. Work is very all or nothing and sometimes, there’s not as much work available as I would like. Just like that, the children are back to school. It is becoming increasingly clear that this whole thing isn’t really diminishing. Lockdown measures are already beginning to tighten again but I live in hope that they won’t have to close all schools anytime soon. Children have suffered so much due to a virus that has such a minimal impact on them. For the time being though, we are continuing to carefully enjoy a bit of freedom. I’ve had some hot cups of tea and a couple of river swims. Lockdown has definitely made me reassess what’s important. The pantomime that…

Isn’t it amazing how much better everybody feels for a bit of sea air? We felt so lucky during lockdown to live in a beautiful area where we could walk every day. We were also incredibly grateful for our garden and the opportunity to get out for a swim in the river once things started to ease. The one thing we did miss though was the beach. It has been a long time coming but we finally made it to the beach this week. It was rather a relief to get back in the sea.   Breaking up a journey…
