Well I can safely say that half-term hasn’t quite gone to plan. We had grand plans for this week. First we thought we might go away for a few days. Then we decided to stay local and have some nice days out, getting some much-needed home decorating done at the same time.

What actually happened…

Libby came home from school buzzing last Friday. She’d had a brilliant day and couldn’t wait for her week off. Neither could I – it’s been too long since we’ve had any really great days out together without work getting in the way. So on Saturday, we all headed to the park. It was a lovely day riding their bikes, playing on the swings and just being together.Toddlebike-2-review-4

And there ended our fabulous half term. Libby picked up a sickness bug on Saturday night and was so ill with it that by Sunday morning NHS 111 advised us to take her to A & E. Fortunately, we were only there for a few hours before she could keep water down and we were able to come home.

Since then we’ve all come down with it. Today was the first day any of us have left the house, so unfortunately I’m now playing catch-up with work. Luckily today has been lovely although we weren’t all together. The girls had a great day with my family and I had a meeting at the fabulous Carluccio’s in Grand Central, Birmingham. And the food was stunning!

The rest of the week

We’ve got some serious making up to do after the whitewash earlier in the week. So tomorrow I’m going to get everything done for work and we’ll at least make the most of the weekend. Our plan for Saturday is to head to The Play’s The Thing – the new interactive exhibition at the RSC in Stratford.

On Sunday, we’re hoping to head back to Grand Central to have lunch at YO! Sushi. We’ll make the most of their Half Term Katsu Happiness offer. They’re treating kids dining with a paying adult to a free Katsu with chicken or tofu in a mild curry sauce. I love the fact that there’s a tofu option for veggies and I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to treat the girls to a YO! Sushi for a while. The offer is open until 4th November and valid Tuesday to Friday.

After that we’re hoping to catch Disney on Ice at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham. I’m really hoping that such an exciting weekend will make us all feel like half term hasn’t been a total failure! Luckily even during the worst of times there are some lovely moments. For me this materialised earlier in the week with the girls being so affectionate towards each other when they were both poorly.
